No Permission

Life is too short to wait for a green light.

Don’t wait for someone’s permission to do a kind deed.

I’ve heard the phrase “Let me know if you need help” many times, especially after giving birth, but to be honest, I don’t like it. Here’s why:

I find it hard to ask for help because I often feel like asking for help burdens others. And I’m not alone in this.

Many people resist asking for help because they feel the same way I do.

Some of us feel too shy to raise our hands and say, “Yes, I need help.”

If your intention is genuinely to help, you shouldn’t wait for the other person to give you the green light. Go ahead and do the kind thing anyway!

When someone says, “Let me know if you need help” during my lowest moments, it feels like they’re saying, “I see your struggles, I see you need help, but I won’t step up with my kindness unless you ask.”

Lending a helping hand and spreading kindness never requires permission.
