I’ve always had an obsession to make sure every time I left my mom after a long visit to say, mama, if there’s anything I’ve done that upsets you, please forgive me because we know in Islam kindness and earning the pleasure of our parents it’s on high standards.

God says in the Quran:

“And your Lord has decreed that you worship none but Him. And that you be dutiful to your parents. If one of them or both of them attain old age in your life, say not to them a word of disrespect, nor shout at them but address them in terms of honor.” (Surah Al-Isra verse 23)

And in another part, He says:

“And lower unto them the wing of submission and humility through mercy, and say: ‘My Lord! Bestow on them Your Mercy as they did bring me up when I was small.’” (Sura Al-Isra verse 24)

“Prophet Muhammad ( s.a.w) reinforced the duty to be kind to parents. A companion of the Prophet once asked him which of the many good deeds a man can do is the most loved by God. Prophet Muhammad answered him by saying, “To offer the prayer in its proper time”. The companion then asked, “And what is next?” to which Prophet Muhammad replied, “To be good and dutiful to your parents”. The responsibility to be kind and good to parents comes right after the greatest duty in Islam, the prayer.” Aisha Stacy

After my mother passed away, my OCD obsession was over the roof with a thought like “did you make your mom happy” “ was she really happy? Are you sure?

Then my Lord put my heart to peace by gifting me with a dream I really needed.

This dream had to be the most heart striking dream I have ever had in my life. It entered my home three days after my mom passed away.

My mom was lying down on the floor across from me, and I was standing far from her in a state of being scared because I knew she was dead in my heart.

So I asked her in a trembling voice.

“What is your situation” She raised her hand above and said: “All praise is due to the Lord of the worlds.”

And after that, it was a moment of silence; in my heart, I was talking to myself, saying, Zahra, what is your mom going to say next. Was she pleased with you when she was alive? Did You make her happy?

Then my mom spoke again: “You and Ibtisaam (my sister) have earned my blessings, and I don’t have anything against you guys on the Day of Judgment” With happiness, I was thrilled. With joy, I ran, kissed her hands, and it was raining in the dream.

So I woke up chills ran through my body, and I looked at the window it was raining!

God, I cannot thank you enough for how much that dream meant to me. It was a rain of pure bliss!

And to you readers, my message is:

Please, as grades are earned, as long as you live work to earn the blessings of your parents, you’ll have this peace nothing like it in your heart. ♥
